HOW DO I BID ON A HIP?

Find the Hip that you are wanting to bid on and click on it so you are on its listing page. Click the button “Place A Bid”. Enter the Maximum Bid Amount you would like to bid and click “Confirm Bid.” Confirm the amount you entered is accurate and click “Verify Maximum Bid Amount.” You will either get a message stating that you are the current high bidder or, unfortunately, you will receive a message that someone else has entered a higher maximum bid amount previously and you have been outbid. If you have been outbid, you will have the option to raise your maximum bid amount if you so choose.

WHAT IS A MAXIMUM BID?

The maximum bid (or proxy bid) is the top dollar amount you are willing to pay for a Hip. This will allow the software to continue to bid on your behalf if the next bid increment is met by another bidder. It will save you from being outbid in the final minutes of the auction and allows you the freedom to step away from the auction and let the EquiRing do the work for you.

For example, the necessary bid for a Hip is $1,000 but you know you are willing to pay $4,000 for that horse. When placing your bid, you would enter a $4,000 maximum (proxy) bid. The software will show that the current bid is $1,000 and the next necessary bid is $1,500. Bidder B bids $1,500 and they receive a message that they have been out bid. The software bids $2,000 on your behalf and now the next necessary bid is $2,500. Bidder C bids $2,500 and informed that they are out bid.  The software bids $3,000 on your behalf and now the next necessary bid is $3,500. If the auction ends, you would win that Hip for $3,000. If Bidder D places a bid of $3,500, you are still the current winning bidder as you placed your $4,000 proxy bid first.

WHAT IS A DIRECT BID?

Alternatively, by placing a Direct Bid a bidder can surpass the current minimum bid and its applicable increment.  Enter a bid of any amount (up to your approved limit) to increase the current high bid directly.

WHAT DOES EXTRA TIME MEAN?

Each auction listing has a designated Auction Close time BUT, if a bid is placed on a Hip within the final sixty (60) seconds prior to Auction Close, the Auction Close will be changed to one hundred twenty (120) seconds remaining from the time that bid is placed. The Auction Close will not occur until such time that no bid is placed within the final sixty (60) second period. For example, if the Auction is scheduled to end at 8:00:00pm and a Bidder places a bid at 7:59:30pm, all other Bidders will be granted one hundred twenty (120) seconds from that time to place a final bid. The Auction Close will therefore be postponed to 8.01:30pm, if no other bids are placed.

HOW DO I RECEIVE A TEXT NOTIFICATION IF I AM OUTBID DURING AN AUCTION?

  3. Click " Account Information"
  4. Click "Edit Profile Settings"
  5. Click "Yes" for Enabling SMS (text) Notifications when outbid
  6. Click "Save My Settings"
  7. You will receive a text alerting you that you have enrolled in SMS Notifications
  8. When you are outbid, you should receive a text alerting you as such.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I'M SUCCESSFUL IN PURCHASING A LOT?

If you are the winning bidder at the end of an auction, you will receive a notification email from EquiRing letting you know that you are the winning bidder and providing you with further important instructions to complete the purchase process. In addition, you can always log into your account and go to the “My Account” page to see your bidding/winning history. Please note that all bids are considered binding and if you are the winning bidder, you will be responsible for paying the purchase amount regardless of notification from EquiRing. By using the website you acknowledge that you have read and accepted the terms and Conditions of Sale.

HOW DO RESERVE PRICES WORK?

A reserve price is the minimum amount the seller is willing to accept for the entry. This means that a final bid that is equal to or greater than the specified reserve amount will be accepted as a winning bid.

For example, if an entry has a reserve price of $10,000 - a bid that equals $10,000 or greater will be accepted.
